I would suggest some simple papermaking with recycled paper--junk mail and
such.  If you need more information about papermaking with ordinary
household equipment, please contact me directly.
I also did a participatory collaborative art installation for Earth Day
1995--25th anniversary-- which involved a ceremonial covering of the earth
(an 18 foot diameter prepared bed) with a recycled handmade paper quilt with
flower seeds planted underneath in appropriate colors and shapes to give a
living blooming image of the Earth when the paper dissolved, the seeds
sprouted and the flowers grew and bloomed.  This installation was
interesting and beautiful as it changed over the months finally blooming in
late July (in Central New York) and then dying down for the winter.
