Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum
Exhibit Maintenance Technician
(a full-time non-exempt position)

The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum is seeking an Exhibit Maintenance
Technician to perform routine maintenance on exhibits and exhibit
components and to trouble shoot, diagnose, and repair defective A/V
equipment.  This position reports to the Assistant Manager of Exhibits.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- perform duties related to the daily starting up and repair of exhibits
- respond to exhibit problems during the day
- diagnose defective A/V equipment using manuals, schematics and test 
              equipment
- copy and edit existing electronic exhibit programming using various 
              computer programs such as “Toast”
- provide daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance for exhibits

This position will supervise one/two staff when the Assistant Manager of
Exhibits is absent.

Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.  A college degree or
technical school training is preferred.

Experience and Abilities:
The ability to trouble shoot mechanical and electrical problems and to
read electrical schematics and interpret them is required.  Experience
building, repairing or modifying exhibits and interactives and three years
experience or technical school training with electrical and A/V devices is
required.  Five years experience and some basic computer programming
knowledge is preferred. The ability to diagnose and repair LCD projectors,
their equivalent, and other types of A/V equipment is preferred.  This
position may require working on the weekend and some evenings.
