Automation Consultant Positions

The Center for Jewish History, a new organization created through the
association of five archival/library and museum institutions, seeks
consultants with in-depth expertise in the areas of library, archival and
museum management systems to evaluate the automation needs of an Integrated
Collection Management and Access System for the Center as part of a of
three-year grant from the National Historical Publications and Records
Commission.  The consultants will assist the staff in the automation
planning process including defining the requirements for the library,
archives and museum modules.  In addition to the selection and
implementation of an online public access catalog, work completed during the
Project will include a survey of the levels of archival description and
establishment and implementation of a common standard of description;
processing of collections and preparation of finding aids including EAD
mark-up. The Project will take place within the context of an integrated
management and access plan that incorporates public services, collection
management, preservation and automation activities.

Project consultants will submit reports and recommendations to an
Information Architecture Consultant who will evaluate the interoperability
of recommended systems and software.

Qualifications:  Demonstrated expertise in the areas of museum, archival or
library database management including experience evaluating and implementing
automated systems.
