There was a story about the government taking over a historic Indian War
fort out west. When the new director arrived he found a log cabin filled
with documents from the period. He contacted his agency in D.C. and asked
for permission to clean out the building. His instructions were to
microfilm the documents and then make a hard copy of each page in duplicate
and store on site.(joke)
Or then how about the American colonial period documents of all sorts that
were literally put in the dumpster by Connecticut when their archives were
"cleaned out" and are now so much in demand in the collectors market. (sad
but true)
