Associate Manager of Tourism and Group Services

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks an Associate Manager of Tourism and Group Services.  This position is responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating all operational and marketing activities of the Tourism Services Division.  This includes overseeing all aspects of group appointments and individual traveler needs, maintaining group statistics and accounting, managing Group Desk activities, and creating annual marketing strategies to promote the Museum to domestic and international tourism professionals.  Primary responsibilities and duties include: overseeing day-to-day operations for Tourism Services, including groups and FIT (Frequent Individual Traveler) appointments, account reconciliation, sale of packages and guest passes, and coordination of Group Desk activities; supervising full-time and part-time staff and volunteers within Tourism Services and participate in the hiring of new staff; creating and maintaining marketing strategies with the Advertising/Marketing Manager of Communications to increase the Museum's visibility in the tourism industry; organizing and representing the Museum in tourism related conferences, summits, and tradeshows in the United States and abroad; managing Tourism Services's departmental budget on a monthly and annual basis; preparing weekly and monthly reports or Tourism Services's activities; working closely with other Museum departments to develop new group offerings and to maintain the integrity and unilateral operations of all Museum group appointments, and other related duties as required.

Successful candidates will have previous experience managing workloads, handling disciplinary issues, and developing career paths for a dedicated team of professionals.  Must have previous experience marketing, promoting, and/or advertising to the tourism industry both domestically and international.  Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills.  Must have ability to multitask competing priorities.  Must have ability to provide professional problem solving assistance.  Experience with museum, visitor, tourism promotion, and/or membership programs, preferred.  Bachelor degree required; degree in business administration or marketing, preferred.  Knowledge of marketing and financial accounting is required.  Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).  Working knowledge of VISTA software, preferred.
