Depending the type of question you could consult the following sites:

http://www.icom.org
Site of the International Council of Museums with their Code of Professional
Ethics (1986)

http://www.icomos.org
Site of the International Council of Monuments and Sites with links to their
Charters and UNESCO conventions

http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/
Site of CoOl (Conservation On Line) with links to a wide range of codes and
articles on the ethics of conservation/restoration

There are many codes, national codes and specialised codes. A complete list
of codes which we have in our library can be send by mail on request.

There are also many publications on ethics, usually concerning one specific
area (such as collecting or conservation) or one type of problem (such as
human remains). Case studies are too numerous to list. For more general
reflexions you might consult:

A.J.Duggan, 'Ethics of curatorship in the UK', in: Manual of curatorship
(2nd ed.; London 1992)

J.R.Glaser & A.A.Zenetou eds., Gender perspectives (Washington 1994)

E.L.Green ed., Ethics and values in archaeology (New York-London 1984)

P. Mauch Messenger ed., The ethics of collecting cultural property: whose
cultur? whose property? (Albuquerque 1989)

P. van Mensch ed., Professionalising the muses (Amsterdam 1989)

J.H.Merryman & A.E.Elsen eds., Law, ethics and the visual arts (2nd ed.;
Philadelphia 1987)

F.Schmidt, 'Codes of museum ethics and the financial pressure on museums',
Museum Management and Curatorship 11, 1992, (2): 257-268.

This is just a rough selection. Reading lists on specific topics are
available on request (and hopefully within two months on our website).
