90032 PT Computer Assistant (Desktop and Server Support Technician). Gr. 8.
28 Hrs./Wk. Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Peabody Museum. Reporting to the
Director for Information Services and Technology, provides technical
support for Mac and IBM computers and applications and oversees daily
operations of servers including administration, backups, and
hardware/software upgrades. Purchases
hardware and software and maintains inventory. Installs, configures,
maintains, and troubleshoots problems with hardware and software on desktop
computers and servers. Provides assistance and training to users.
Coordinates server changes with database administrators. Performs routine
backups.
Follows up on service calls. Performs related job duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS: B.A. preferred with two years technical support experience.
Strong knowledge of Macintosh and IBM hardware. Mac O/S's, TCP/IP network
configurations, AppleTalk network, client/server software. Extensive
experience with word processing, spreadsheet, relational database
applications (Word, Excel, Filemaker, Eudora,
MeetingMaker) required; knowledge of Quark, Photoshop preferred. Must be
able to handle several projects simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal
skills, and verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to
communicate technical information to nontechnical users. Some heavy lifting
required.
