National Task Force on Emergency Response

The National Task Force on Emergency Response is a partnership of 30 government
agencies and national service organizations committed to providing information
and expert assistance to cultural institutions and the public in times of
disaster. It is an initiative of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the
Getty Conservation Institute, and Heritage Preservation. Position reports to Task
Force Director.


Primary Responsibilities:

Emergency Response and Salvage Wheel. 1. Manage the database for this highly
successful service product, maintain an accurate inventory, and execute order
fulfillment and billing.
2. Respond to requests for information, drafting correspondence and brief
articles as necessary. 3. Identify sales venues and arrange for displays at
conferences and workshops nationwide.

Spanish-Language Wheel Project. Participate in implementing this new project in
a variety of ways, including research on media contacts, production assistance,
liaison work with the project advisory committee, and the design and
application of an effective distribution system.

Flood/Hurricane Information Packets. Following Presidentially-declared
disasters, the task force distributes response and recovery materials to archives,
libraries, museums and historic sites in affected areas. The assistant will be
responsible for monitoring disaster news, maintaining current mailing labels and
informational materials, and overseeing the timely mailing of packets.

Administration. Assist the director with daily administration of the task
force, including responding to general information requests, maintaining project
files and resource materials, and disseminating reports to task force members.
Assist in the organization of annual task force meetings, providing scheduling and
logistical support.


Qualifications: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, Internet
research skills, excellent writing ability and proven success working with the
public. Knowledge of Filemaker Pro and experience in media relations are pluses.
