The historic preservaton field is growing. Cornell has a preservation
site which is very good for browsing career opportunitiesa:
http://www.preservenet.cornell.edu/ The National Trust Preservation
magazine has a comprehensive list of schools which offer Preservatoin
degrees - their focus, and number of credit hours. Some schools offer an
MS with focus on materials and their preservation - two that come to mind
are the MS at the University of Oregon and the Univeristy of Vermont.
Others are more academic and policy oriented. It may also be very
beneficial to couple your preservation work with an architecture degree.
I received my MA in architectural history and historic preservation
certificate from the University of Virginia. Many of my
classmates are working for state and local government agencies.
