Hi
Microsoft publisher is actually pretty good - and I think there are
multiple versions of it with more advanced features.

Serif Pageplus is another option
http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/pageplus/ - there's a free
version, but there's also a cheap upgrade.

Adobe indesign is (very) expensive, but it along with Quark Express are
the industry standards.

Frankly, I wouldn't use them for exhibit pannels. If it was me, I'd use
Photoshop as my main tool (with Microsoft publisher if there was a lot
of writing)

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Software recommendations?

Hi Everyone -

I'm looking for recommendations in terms of inexpensive (free?)
design/layout software. When we develop small(er) exhibits in-house, I
end up designing the exhibit panels, etc. Because the program is
installed on my computer, I've always used Microsoft Publisher, but it
seems like there should be "something better" out there. What are other
museums using to design/layout exhibit panels?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lenora
