As for professional titles in museums, in my book MUSEUMS: A PLACE
TO WORK, PLANNING MUSEUM CAREERS, (coming out next month from
Routledge Press), we list 30 commonly used titles in museums, mostly
U.S. usage. However, there are no "rules" for titles, nor should there be.
Every museum adapts to their purposes and some come up with some very
original titles. Doesn't matter, as long as it describes the job.

Other countries have similar titles to the U.S., but there are definitely
differences! A "conservator" in some European countries is what we call
a "curator." Terminology in museums varies from country to country, but
we all still have a commonality of goals and objectives that keeps us
working together.
