Director, Educational Outreach


SUMMARY:
The Director of Education contributes to the continued success of Experience Learning Community by leading the Education team to develop and manage educational programs targeted specifically to museum visitors and members, community partners, schools and youth group organizations, festivals, special events, and other external clients. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned): 
* Responsible for overseeing the design and development of comprehensive and innovative programs that recognize and nurture individual creativity, promote participation, and encourage exploration. 
* Design and deliver a far-reaching education strategy and a tactical implementation plan to meet the needs and intent of EMP and SFM. 
* Expand themes introduced in various aspects of EMP and SFM and leverage the commitment to an open and broad presentation of ideas that promote music, the arts, science fiction, creativity, critical thinking, and dialogue. 
* Responsible for overseeing the design and development of comprehensive and innovative programs that recognize and nurture individual creativity, promote participation, and encourage exploration. 
* Design and deliver a far-reaching education strategy and a tactical implementation plan to meet the needs and intent of EMP and SFM. 
* Represent the Education department at senior level management meetings, and at museum and community events. 
* Develop and monitor department budget. 
* Continually develop community relationships. 
* Work with the Development team on education-related funding opportunities. 
* Expand themes introduced in various aspects of EMP and SFM and leverage the commitment to an open and broad presentation of ideas that promote music, science fiction, the sciences, creativity, critical thinking, and dialogue. 
QUALIFICATIONS 

Education/Experience/Certifications:
* Advanced degree (M.A. or PhD) in Education, and minimum 10 years solid work experience planning, developing, designing and implementing successful instructional programs with an emphasis on inspiring creativity and innovation throughout the curriculum. 

* A minimum of five years of senior management experience leading a team of professionals and multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
* Proven ability to create and implement innovative curriculum and programming that successfully incorporates and balances the needs of various creative stakeholders. 
* Demonstrated success managing budgets and timelines. 
* Must be energetic, articulate, and self-assured, and possess strong interpersonal skills. 
* Ability to exercise a strong presence to convene groups, shape dialogues, and develop and manager productive relationships at all levels of ELC. 
* Demonstrated maturity and sound judgment are required. 
* Excellent analytical skills and strong proficiency in computer technology is preferred. 
* Background in popular music and/or the sciences is highly desired. 
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. 
* Proven ability to provide effective customer service for internal and external client groups. 
* Must be detail oriented, with strong organizational skills in order to manage a continuous workflow in a high volume, multi-tasking environment. 
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment with a dynamic range of people.
