In the Discovery Place we use Wentz scopes. They have one very large viewing lens that you look into without putting your eye right on it. However, the slides are attached so that the public doesn't change them. You can attach four of five at a time and change them periodically.

Our newest exhibit will have microscopes for "hands-on" use by the public,
so that they can view thin rock sections and other slides. Questions:

Should we be concerned about communicable eye bugs that could possibly be
transmitted via the scopes? Has anyone else had a similar situation, and
can you suggest a solution?

Also - can anyone recommend a type of scope (brand name or made from parts)
that has worked best for you in an exhibit? We want adults and kids to use
the real thing but worry about parts disappearing, specimens being smashed,
and ease of use.

Thanks y'all.
