I agree with Janice Klein, "Steal This Handbook!" by the Southeastern
Registrars Association is an excellent publication with information on
everything from step-by-step response procedures to guidelines on how to
write a press release.

Other very useful references are:

* "Emergency Contingency Planning" - a video produced by CCI, the
Universite du Quebec a Montreal, and the Centre de conservation du Quebec,
available for $75 Canadian from the Universite du Quebec a Montreal, phone
(514) 987-6105, fax (514) 987-4820.

* "Salvage Operations for Water Damaged Archival Collections: A Second
Glance" - an article written by Betty Walsh, published in the May 1997
Western Association for Art Conservation (WAAC) Newsletter. This article
and its accompanying 17" x 22" summary chart (printed on waterproof
paper!) gives clear, concise guidelines on a wide range of archival
material from paper documents to photographs to computer media. Contact
Betty Walsh at the B.C. Information Mangement Services at (205) 387-3986
or order a back issue from WAAC, c/o Chris Stavroudis at (213)654-8748.

* visit the web site for Conservation On-Line (CoOL) at
http://palimpsest.stanford.edu. Access 'Disaster Planning and Response'
under 'Conservation Topics' for extensive information that includes
articles, technical leaflets, checklists and sample emergency plans from
museums, libraries and archives.
