The Historic House Trust of New York City seeks a Director for the Dyckman
Farmhouse Museum and the Little Red Lighthouse, both located in northern
Manhattan.

POSITION: Director, Dyckman Farmhouse Museum and Park

START DATE: September 1, 2003

SALARY:  $27,000 - $42,000

The Director will work with the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, owner
of the property, and the Historic House Trust to operate the Dyckman
Farmhouse and Park. The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum, located at Manhattan's
northern tip, is the only remaining Dutch colonial farmhouse left in the
borough. The museum, open to the public since 1916, seeks to interpret
early Dutch life through period room exhibits supplemented by education
programs.  The site includes a half-acre park with gardens, a smokehouse
and a reconstructed Revolutionary War hut.  Respnsibilities also include
the operation of the Little Red Lighthouse, situated in Fort Washington
Park underneath the George Washington Bridge.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
&#61608; Serve as chief administrator of a historic site, setting policy, making
interpretive decisions, and assuring that appropriate systems, procedures
and financial controls are in place.
&#61608; Seek public and private funds for the operations, programming, and
preservation of the site.
&#61608; Develop and implement programs for adult and school age audiences to
increase attendance and enhance the museum’s role as a cultural institution.
&#61608; Oversee general maintenance of the house, its decorative arts collection,
and grounds.
&#61608; Oversee the operations of the Little Red Lighthouse in Fort Washington
Park and coordinate with the Historic House Trust on the annual festival.
&#61608; Develop new marketing plans for the house, the Lighthouse and the
programs.
&#61608; Work with and develop the non-profit Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in History, Education or the Humanities, experience and
an advanced degree in museum field preferred.  Excellent leadership,
communication and community relations skills.  Experience in marketing,
fund-raising, special events and financial management.  Non-profit
management and Board coordination experience preferred. Ability to work
with diverse age ranges, from school groups to adults. Ability to work
independently.

Director will be employee of the City of New York/Parks & Recreation.  New
York City residency required within 90 days of employment.  EOE.
