OPENING FOR EXHIBITS DIRECTOR AT THE LONG ISLAND CHILDREN'S MUSEUM
The Long Island Children's Museum, a hands-on, interdisciplinary museum for
children ages 2-12 and their families, is now interviewing for an Exhibits
Director to help plan for our move to a permanent home. The Museum, open
since November 1993, is currently housed in a 5,500 square foot space. Over
50,000 visitors have visited the Museum in its first 9 months of operation.
The next phase of development calls for a 35,000 square foot building.
The job will include:
Conceptualizing and developing exhibits
Overseeing prototyping and fabrication of exhibits and exhibit upgrades
Overall responsibility for hiring consultants and exhibit developers
Planning and budgeting all phases of exhibits
Writing exhibit proposals and descriptions
Creating activities to expand the use of exhibits
Assembling supplemental background materials for exhibits
Providing leadership, direction and training for staff
Candidates should have the following qualifications:
Previous related experience
Computer literacy
Hands-on approach
Desire and ability to work directly with children
