MAJOR DUTIES:


In this position you will serve as the principal contact for developing

curriculum-based education programs with outside groups in the New York/New

Jersey metropolitan area relative to the National Park of New York Harbor

(NPNYH) Education Center programs at Fort Wadsworth and related park

educational facilities. The Education Center will expand the reach of the

NPNYH parks' educational services and serve as a model education facility
for

the National Park Service.


-You will have a primary responsibility to develop education programs

for the Center with park staff and park partners.

-You will establish and maintain communication links:

a) with school system administrators for the New York and New Jersey

counties surrounding the park;

b) with state agencies such as the Department of Education; and

c) with state-wide education groups and

universities in the tri-state area.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


You must meet the BASIC REQUIREMENTS in A, B, C or D, and the SPECIALIZED

EXPERIENCE as follows:


BASIC REQUIREMENTS

A. Successful completion of a bachelor's degree that included or was

supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work
of

the position to be filled, of which at least 9 semester hours must have
been

in education courses.



B. A combination of education and experience: at least 24 semester hours in
a

field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least 9

semester hours must have been in education courses, plus appropriate

experience or additional education. The experience must reflect the level
and

kind described in C below.



C. Four years of experience that demonstrated a thorough understanding of
the

principles and practices underlying the work of this series. This
experience

must have been of such character and diversity to demonstrate that the

applicant possesses an understanding of the field comparable to that
normally

acquired through successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in
an

accredited college or university.



D. At least 1 full academic year of professional teaching experience. This

experience is defined as full and primary responsibility, under general

supervision, for instruction of assigned students in an accredited school
or

institution. This includes responsibility for preparing and presenting
lessons

and for evaluating students' progress, including a determination of the

students' success or failure according to established criteria. Serving in
an

assistant capacity to a professor without the authority to determine the

students' success or failure to meet course requirements does not meet this

criterion.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-
11

level in the Federal sector that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and

abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position.
This

is experience such as developing curriculum-based education programs with

groups, working with school officials and teachers on programs that support

school curriculum and state standards, developing educational materials,

developing agreements with other agencies and institutions to set up
programs

to complement and extend the value of a park's school programs, and
performing

administrative work like preparing proposals for education related grants.

BASIS FOR RATING:


Ratings will be based on responses to the occupational questions in this

and 100, not including points that may be assigned for veterans preference.
