Dear Colleagues,

In the storage rooms of museum I am collaborating with, the anti-fire
system is being constructed. The fire extinguishing medium suggested by
specialists is based on fluorocarbons (CF3.CHF.CF3). Besides environmental
issue we are aware of (this sort of fluorocarbons react photocemically and
their impact on ozone layer should be negligible) I wonder if they are safe
enough for objects in storage - important textiles. My question, or rather
a small query, concerns the methods used in other museums, for instance: is
CO2 or N2 in use? Water, for obvious reasons cannot be taken into
consideration.
I would be grateful for any comments
Thank you
