Okay, I recruit from a variety of resources, including internship directories, career fairs, mailings to local and national/international colleges, a presence on our website, word of mouth, and sometimes contacting local schools.

We can only pay, unfortunately, if we have funding for stipends or if the intern is a student with federal work-study, although we also give academic credit.

The terms of the internship is that interns work for approximately three months, for a minimum of fifteen hours each week, and that they assist us with different projects in a variety of departments, depending on the needs of the institution, and that they receive an educational experience, which includes practical hands-on training, but also other activites for professional development in the field, and reflective activities, like writing exercises. Usually our interns are interested in finding out more about how a small not-for-profit museum works, what the departments do, and related things.

If I can be of any further help with more details on the above, please contact me off-list and I will be happy to expain further.

Meryl

1) where do you find interns?
2) what do you pay them?
3) what are the terms of the internship?
4) what skills are interns looking to develop?
5) have you ever had remote interns developing materials?
