To Kristy Miller:

        Kristy,

Another masters' degree you might consider is arts administration. I am a
first year arts admin student at Indiana University, and plan on going
into either marketing or program coordination in museums. Your internship
sounds great, and really that is going to be more important to finding a
curatorial job than your current coursework. I believe that traditionally
curators come from an art history background while administrators are
trained in more of a management or public administration background.
However, there is now considerable overlap going on, and I agree that
having broad knowledge is a huge asset.
For arts admin, I am taking
courses in art history/research, visitor behavior, management, marketing,
nonprofit management, museum management, business law, etc. The degree is
very tailored to individual career goals and interests, and we do a one
credit internship each semester with a local organization, and a full
semester internship our final semester. Good luck, and feel free to
contact me off list if you have any other questions!
