Here are a couple of options for you for seeking information about case
materials:

1.) The National Park Service has produced an excellent CD-ROM: "Exhibit
Conservation Guidelines". It is available from the Harpers Ferry Historical
Association for $49.95. Information about the CD-Rom and ordering
information can be found at:
http://www.nps.gov/hfc/products/cons/ex-con-guidelines.htm

2.) The Centre de conservation du Quebec (CCQ) has produced an interactive
database on products and equipment used in preventive conservation.
"Preserv'Art" is practical and user-friendly, providing information
on products and equipment used for the protection of artifacts and
works of art during transit, exhibit or storage. Preserv'Art" is available
in French and English through the Centre de conservation website at
URL:http://www.ccq.mcc.gouv.qc.ca.

3.) The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston has developed the CAMEO (Conservation
and Art Material Encyclopedia Online) database that contains chemical
physical, visual and analytical information on a wide range of materials
used in conservation, preservation and production of artistic, architectural
and archaeological materials. The link is
http://www.mfa.orf/_cameo/frontend/home.asp

I am sure that there are other resources out there. Hope this helps.

Subject: safe exhibit case materials

We are building new cases for a new permanent
exhibition. I am interested in finding some
resources for safe materials to build the cases with
-- wood, stains, paints, fabrics, etc.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks!
Kim Kenney
