Halley,
The Mariners' Museum has been charging loan fees for the past 15 to 20
years. Right now we charge a flat $200 fee for loans of up to five objects
and $500 for loans of five or more objects or rush loans (i.e. less than one
to two months notice before the start of the loan). Typically, we use the
fee to cover the costs we incur while processing the objects for loan (i.e.
photography/printing, condition reporting, packing costs, and basic cleaning
and conservation). Depending upon the object and shipping method we may use
the fee to cover the shipping or transportation costs.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Museum loan fees

I work for a mid-size museum with art, natural science and history
collections. We have not charged a loan fee in the past but are now
thinking of instituting one. Can people share what loan fees they charge?
And if it is per object and per venue if the loan goes on tour.

Thanks
