What a great idea!

My sense of this is that you should consider promoting this as more of a
"Family" and "Community" event - rather than a specialist cyclist event (a lot
depends on the stenuousness and length of the route).

I don't know what the demographics are on cyclists and their attendance at
musuems and historic sites, but I bet that you'd garner more punch in orienting
the event towards families, if possible.

It should be possible to get some grass-roots support going through schools,
and organized groups such as the girl scouts or boy scouts. You might get
sponsorship through a local bank, newspaper, resturants, or cycle shops and get a
lot of free media for the event.

It would also be important to include the city and/or county in the planning
as their partnership would be valuable to its success.

If you wanted to you could add a picinic/history fair at the finish line and
make a very nice day of it for all involved.

If it proves popular it could certainly be an annual event.

The Tour de History?

I love it!

Cheers!
Dave
