Position Available: AMICO Communications Director

The Art Museum Image Consortium seeks an articulate and creative
individual to manage all aspects of our print, on-line and in-person
communications.

About AMICO
The Art Museum Image Consortium is an independent, not-for-profit
membership association of institutions with collections of art.
Founded in the fall of 1997, and independently incorporated in June
of 1998, AMICO is an innovative collaboration, not seen before in
museums, that shares, shapes and standardizes information regarding
cultural collections and enables its educational use. The AMICO
Library (TM) is a multimedia digital library compiled by the AMICO,
and distributed, under educational license. AMICO partners with
distributors to make the AMICO Library available over secure networks
to institutional subscribers, including universities, colleges,
libraries, schools and museums. Designated users include faculty,
students, teachers, staff and researchers. See http://www.amico.org
for full background information.

Responsibilities
The AMICO Communications Director manages one of the two major
divisions of AMICO operations (the other being Production, including
AMICO Library development and distribution). As such, the
Communications Director is a member of AMICO's senior staff and
involved in strategic planning, fundraising and budgeting.A full job
description is available at http://www.amico.org/).

AMICO is a consortium with diverse and distributed audiences. The
Communications Director is responsible for identifying audiences,
determining their informational needs, and designing, developing and
implementing effective communications programs to meet those needs.

Employing a wide range of print and electronic means, the
Communications Director works to ensure that AMICO Members receive
timely information about participation in the consortium's
activities, that AMICO subscribers are encouraged to provide feedback
to the Consortium and its members, that potential subscribers are
recruited, that funders learn of AMICO's activities and that the
general subscriber, member, and museum/humanities computing community
is apprised of AMICO's programs and goals. The Communications
Director coordinates the production of a quarterly newsletter, AMICO
Update, and ensures AMICO's representation at professional meetings
and exhibitions.

The Ideal Candidate
The AMICO Communications Director will be an experienced
professional, known in the international cultural or Digital Library
community, who is familiar with museums and/or digital libraries. The
Communications Director knows how to express complex concepts in
simple language, and to tailor a message according to the needs of
its recipient.

Library/Information Science or Arts Management preferred. Equivalent
professional experience acceptable.

Location
     * The AMICO Offices have been located in Pittsburgh,
