Good Morning All,
One of the Federal Regulations that caused a significant increase in CRM
related collections in museums and in Federal CRM contracts with
museums, independent contractors, and universities was President R. M.
Nixon's Executive Order 11593 in 1971.
Please see http://www.nplnews.com/toolbox/eo/eo-nixon-11593.htm
President Nixon's legacy in the field of historic preservation and
cultural resources management has been overlooked by many. I remember
back in the late 1970s.....one CRM wag, after a few beers, even
suggested that Nixon should have been elevated to sainthood in the
historic preservation pantheon because of E.O. 11593. Maybe he had a
point..........
Best Wishes,
Wesley S. Creel

My guess is that it was in the early 70s. That's when I first became
aware
of it. I think it was a spinoff of the LBJ administrations's goals.
