GW Center for Professional Development in Washington DC Announces the following Fine and Decorative Arts seminar in March:

Design and Painting in London in the Time of Thomas Gainsborough (CWAS 614)

A major exhibition about Thomas Gainsborough, assembled by the Tate Britain, provides a unique opportunity to explore the high style English luxury market in London. By the 1760's, England was on top of the world, whipping the French right-and-left. London, as much as Paris, was a fashion center with an expanding luxury market in architecture, furniture, silver, and paintings. Sir Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough provided this luxury market with splendid portraits for reception rooms. Thomas Gainsborough worked in both Bath and London for polite society. The class concludes with a visit to the Thomas Gainsborough exhibition at the National Gallery of Art.

Instructor: Phillip Leonard

Dates: Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16; Time: Saturday 2:00pm-6:00pm; Sunday 9:00am-6:00pm, Cost: $296, Location: 2020 K Street NW, Washington DC
