Dear William,

You may want to contact the Orchard House Museum in Concord, MA. They
have rehabilitated a small late-19th century schoolhouse which they now
use to host events and programs throughout the year.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] feasibility study of museum vs adaptive reuse

Hello all,

I am taking measures to preserve an early 20th-century school building
and a
circa 1890 log cabin in my community that I would like to turn into
museums,
or possibly attempt adaptive reuse of the school building while making
the
cabin a rural-life museum. I've read "Starting Right," which gave me
some
very good pointers, but I thought I would ask the museum community at
large
about feasibility studies and the possibilty of adaptive reuse. Have any
of
you helped on the ground level of museum creation and dealt with these
issues?
What was the best avenue for you, and if you did a feasibility study,
how long
did it take you to complete it?

Many thanks,
William Denius
