Paul-

Many military museums in the US are administered by the US Army Center of
Military History. These positions are all US government jobs, so are often
at higher wages and benefits than typical museum jobs, but are also hard to
qualify for. They tend to hire dual status people (those in the National
Guard or Reserves), military veterans, or those who are current government
employees. They also tend to require graduate degrees in history of museum
studies. As always, one way of breaking into the system would be to offer
to volunteer at a military museum near you.

For information on CMH and a list of Army museums check out the CMH website
at:

http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/default.htm

Actual job openings are listed on the Office of Personnel Management website
at:

http://www.usajobs.opm.gov/a8.htm

This site includes openings at all government run museums.

If you are interested in becoming an exhibit designer rather than a curator,
you might have a better chance at volunteer opportunities and later at jobs.

Feel free to contact me off list if you have other questions.
