Position Description
This is a professional position in the Archives/Library Division.  The
audiovisuals curator is responsible for processing, arranging and describing
the Archives/Library Division audiovisual materials including: prints,
drawings, photographs, sound recordings, motion picture film, ephemera and
related audiovisual materials. These activities are intended to increase and
improve access to collections on-site and online.

Primary Responsibilities
Process, arrange and catalog audiovisual collections.
Implement inventory of current audiovisual holdings.
Create finding aids and catalog records for audiovisual collections.
Convert existing finding aids to new online template.
Provide electronic access to audiovisual collections through digital imaging
technology.
Appraise new audiovisual material acquisitions and re-appraise existing
collections.
Assist in preparation of exhibits and publications.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Working Conditions
A majority of the work in this position is performed in an office
environment; some takes place in library stack and storage areas.

Typical Physical Demands
This position requires prolonged sitting (chiefly at a computer terminal)
and some bending, stooping and stretching.  Also required on occasion is the
lifting and moving of boxes weighing up to fifty pounds.

Relationships
Internal:  Supervises Technician, VSR and volunteers.  Works independently
under the general supervision of the Head of Manuscripts and Audiovisuals.

Qualifications
Education:  Graduate degree in American history, library science, fine arts
or related field.

Experience:  Three or more years of professional experience working in an
archives, library or art museum, with specific curatorial responsibility for
audiovisual collections.  Demonstrated success in the development of grant
proposals and in the management of grant funded projects.

Essential knowledge, abilities and skills:
Strong project planning and management skills
Basic office software skills (Microsoft Windows 95/NT, Word, Excel, Access,
PowerPoint and Outlook)
Experience processing archival and/or museum collections
Familiarity with MARC, AACR2, HTML, SGML and EAD
Excellent communications skills-written and verbal
Ability to follow complex instructions, work independently, manage time
effectively and exercise good judgement
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Salary
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
