Apologies for cross-postings.

Register now to attend an "orphan film" symposium.

Orphans of the Storm II: Documenting the 20th Century
March 29-31, 2001
at the University of South Carolina
in Columbia, SC

Building upon the enthusiastic response to its inaugural orphan film
symposium
(1999), the University of South Carolina is hosting a second event on
the preservation, study, and use of "orphan films." How do these films
alter our understanding of the 20th century? What histories are to be made
from the likes of home movies, outtakes, newsreels, silent cinema,
experimental works, stock footage, educational films, government
productions, amateur footage, kinescopes, industrials, travelogues, and all
manner of independent documentaries?

These questions will be explored at "Orphans of the Storm II," March 29-31,
2001. Orphans II is a true 'symposium': participation is open to
scholars, students, artists, archivists and professionals in any
film-related field.

Three days of presentations include the screening of new film and video
work using orphaned images; papers by leading scholars and archivists
working with orphan films and television; screenings of rare historical
film documents; music, food, and good conversation.

See full details at http://www.sc.edu/filmsymposium

Registration is $275 through January 31, 2001.
After that, the fee is $300. Deadline March 5th, 2001.
Students may register for half price.
