Art and Politics: Rethinking Arts Policy and Cultural Diplomacy
A Panel Discussion with Washington Cultural Leaders

In light of current challenges to the art and culture world, three arts policy leaders offer their extensive experience and knowledge in a timely panel discussion exploring arts, culture, and public policy at the National Museum of Women in the Arts at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011. The program is co-sponsored by ArtTable, the leadership organization for professional women in the visual arts, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC.

At the panel, Art and Politics: Rethinking Arts Policy and Cultural Diplomacy, Anne Goodyear, Associate Curator for Prints and Drawings at the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, and Chair of the D.C. Chapter of ArtTable, will moderate a lively conversation with leaders in the field coming from a range of perspectives:

•	Jim Leach, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities
•	Richard Kurin, Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture, Smithsonian Institution
•	J. P. Singh, Associate Professor in the Graduate Program in Communication, Culture and Technology at Georgetown University

Panelists will address recent changes to federal support for the arts and implications for public policy, the role of the arts and humanities in shaping cultural diplomacy, what we could learn from our counterparts in other countries about support for the arts and humanities, among other related themes. A question and answer session for audience members will follow the panel discussion.

Admission is free and open to the public; registering is recommended. Register on the ArtTable website:
