Not an answer proper but just a reflection that came into my mind when
reading the subject:

In theatres and opera houses most of the material is kept in storage, some
of it may be reused, and some is even given to a theatre museum (by the way:
what about a museums' museum?)

As to exhibits it goes without saying that all the documents and written
records, from the first outlines through to evaluation reports, are put into
archive as well as photos, slides, videos, tapes etc.
