RESEARCH SERVICES ASSOCIATE

Full time (40 hr/wk); Tuesday - Saturday, Wednesday evening.  Annual
Salary:  $25,000+.

Individual will work with the Research Room staff in providing research
assistance to on- and off-site users of the Society's special
collections library.

Primary responsibilities include the retrieving and re-shelving of
requested manuscript and published materials; monitoring Research Room
activities to assure proper handling and security of collections items;
researching and replying to queries through the Research By Mail
program; and assorted activities in support of Research Room and
Research By Mail functions (photocopy,  data entry, etc.).

A qualified candidate must have a B.A. in History, American Studies or
related field.  Knowledge and interest in local or regional history
required.  Library or archives experience preferred.  Some knowledge of
computers useful.  Must be energetic, helpful, creative,
and detail-oriented.  Should be tolerant of dust and able to lift and
carry up to 40 lbs. of boxed material.
