Hi Julie, Katie, Heather et al.,

Another good move for college/university galleries and museums, if the
facility is of sufficient size: Offer to host concerts, conference
sessions, talks, etc. sponsored by other departments.  (This will also
give your name free and increased advertising.)  Granted, those who
attend these events are not there for your collections and displays,
BUT, they may take some time to look.  Just make sure to record them as
a different category of attendance within your "total attendance."
Since September, we have had -- in addition to our own artist/curator
talks and exhibition openings -- one of two planned Author's talks (for
English); one of two planned Landscape Architecture talks; and a series
of three concerts by USU's "in residence" string quartet.

And I'll reinforce Heather's suggestion: Think of how your
collections/displays can be specifically applied within varied academic
disciplines.  We have had all sorts of classes over here since
September: Art (Ceramics, Drawing, Painting); English (Creative Writing,
Nature Writing, Nonfiction Writing, Poetry); Intensive ESL classes;
Humanities; Interior Design.  For everything exhibition, I write a
one-page "Fact Sheet," then have an intern (or campus mail) deliver to
faculty I feel are prime candidates for interdisciplinary integration.

[For reference: 4 F/T + 2 P/T + shoe-string budget.  University campus =
22,000 students + 4,500 staff/faculty.  City pop. = 43,000.  Regional
pop. = 100,000.]
