Colleagues:

For a potential article in Museum News, I am compiling information about how
the museum workplace is affected by union affiliation.

Perhaps your institution is unionized or there are some union members who
work alongside non-union employees. Maybe present or former staff
established an entity that serves as an alternative to a union, such as a
staff association. How do these structures affect your institution? Any
background you can provide concerning what prompted staff to organize and
whether they achieved their goals would also be useful.

Your responses are key to helping us answer the following questions: Is
union representation more common in certain kinds of museums or those in
particular regions? What are specific pros and cons from both management and
non-management points of view? How effective are various non-union
alternatives?

I welcome information from any staff member of any type of museum. Thank
you.
