We've recently changed our front-of-house uniform to reflect our more
family-friendly audience development strategy (our previous uniform was blue
blazers).

We decided this would be another opportunity to bring art into the gallery.
We went through a commissioning process with several textile makers (and
those who wear the uniform were a vital part of the choosing process) for
uniform waistcoats (vests for those of you in North America).  Obviously,
they had to conform to many durability/cleaning conditions as part of the
process.

There were hitches along the way and undeniably it was more complicated than
simply purchasing off the rack.  However, we're proud to be an art gallery
where even the uniform reflects our mission!  If we ever manage to get our
new website on-line (www.wolverhamptonart.org.uk), you will be able to see a
photo of some of our visitor assistants modelling the waistcoats.
