PERSONNEL VACANCY NOTICE:  Gift Shop & Tours Manager, Louis Armstrong House.

BACKGROUND:  The Louis Armstrong House, a national historic landmark and a New
York City landmark, seeks a manager to administer the gift shop and to schedule
tours.

DUTIES:  (1) Administer daily operations of the museum gift shop; (2) With the
Director and the Curator, select product for the gift shop; (3) Purchase
product from vendors; (4) Maintain records for purchases, inventory, sales, and
deposits; (5) Hire, train, and supervise gift shop staff; (6) Schedule and plan
group tours, school visits, etc.; (7) Present historic house tours (as needed);
(8) With the Facilities and Services Manager, serve as a community liaison; (9)
Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (1) High school diploma; (2) Two years of managerial
experience in a retail setting; (3) Fluency in English and Spanish; (4) Ability
to compose correspondence, reports, memos and other such documents without
errors in spelling, grammar, or format; (5) Satisfactory qualities of
personality and character and ability to work with others for the good of the
institution; (6) Potential for significant achievement and growth; (7)
Excellent references.

DESIRABLE:  (1) Previous employment by a museum, historical society, or
cultural institution; (2) Bachelor’s degree; (3) Knowledge of the life of Louis
Armstrong.

HOURS:  35 hours per week, to be scheduled between 10:00am and 6:00pm, Tuesday
through Sunday.  Occasional evening events.

SALARY:  $27,845-$31,500 annually.  Full benefits.
