This is a good observation. While a "name" school might help you land
the first job, it really doesn't make a difference down the road. Your
student loans will stick with you longer than the prestige of your
degree. 10+ years after getting out of grad school and countless
interviews, hardly anyone has even bothered to look at where I went to
school and no one has asked me about it. They have asked me about the
distance learning courses I took in Australia, and the only reason
that caught their eye is because it is a different country.

For government type jobs, most just require a degree and they really
don't care where you are from.

Not to knock "name" schools, because they get the "name" from having
quality programs. This doesn't mean that "lesser named" schools aren't
as good. In the end, work experience will mean a lot more than
degrees.

Another note, just because you didn't get the job, doesn't mean you
weren't qualified or aren't good enough. You get the interview because
people think you are qualified. The interview is mainly to see if you
"click" with the people you work with. Everyone's had an interview
where they were glad not to have gotten the job. Like trying on
clothes, there isn't "one size fits all" and jobs are no different.
