Position Announcement
Education Curator for Public Programs, Illinois State Museum

Position Title: Curator, Illinois State Museum (Full-time, State Funded)
Work Location: Illinois State Museum. 502 S. Spring, Springfield, IL

Job Description: This individual will coordinate all aspects of the 
museum s public programming including quarterly family events, special 
events, lectures, film series, workshops for children and adults, 
overnight camp-ins, and birthday parties. Duties include scheduling and 
planning public programs; arrange program presenters (in-house or 
outside); program registration; program evaluation; development of new 
programs; utilizing volunteers to assist with public programs; teaching 
or leading public or school programs; writing and producing Events and 
Activities (the Museum’s quarterly public program guide), program 
flyers, and brochures; and writing materials for other museum 
publications such as its member’s newsletter (Impressions).

Qualifications: Bachelor s degree in education, museum studies, art, 
anthropology, or natural science required. Master s preferred. One to 
three years of paid work experience as an educator in a museum, nature 
center, or similar informal education setting required. Experience in 
coordinating museum public programming preferred. Past experience 
working with volunteers required. Must have strong written and oral 
communication skills and the ability to write effective program copy. 
Must be able to meet multiple, simultaneous deadlines. Computer skills 
including the ability to use Web and email for communication and 
research, and ability to use word processing (Word and WordPerfect) and 
database management (Access) software required. Desktop publishing 
experience with PageMaker or InDesign preferred.

Salary and Rank: Commensurate with education and experience.
