Jill, you shouldn't have any trouble transporting your artifact by train as
far security is concerned.  In my recent train trips, no one paid any
attention to what anyone was carrying.  Indeed, security is very lax.  I
think practical issues such as the size and maneuverability of the object in
limited space will be of greater concern.  Will you have enough room to
position the object properly?  If it has to be carried (and stowed) flat at
all times, you could encounter difficulties.  But I've never had any trouble
keeping my luggage and parcels with me at all times on a train anywhere.
