We used a product called "Sparkle Plenty" to clean our 19th century
chandelier last year.  It had been many years since it was cleaned and
was pretty dirty. The directions for the product state to simply spray
it on and let it drip dry.  Our staff did use a limited amount of hand
rubbing on some of the prisms, however.  These extra dirty prisms were
taken off, cleaned, and immediately replaced. This process worked well
for us. We did, of course, cover the floor underneath well.
I vaguely remember posting a query to the list to see if anyone else had
experience with Sparkle Plenty and if they knew of any damage it might
cause, but I did not get any responses. Checking up on the ingredients,
which were not printed on the label, might be prudent, especially if
your chandelier's metal pieces are fragile.
