Stephen,

I believe you are painting with a brush a little too wide.  I, as do 
many of my Christian friends, as well as those friends of other 
religions, have a great respect for the traditions, beliefs, etc. of 
others.  It is usually the "true believers" on the extremes of a 
religion who do not respect the religious rights of others.
