JOB TITLE: Art Information Access Project Manager

DIVISION: Print and Electronic Media

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Print and Electronic Media

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversees, directs the Institute's Integrated Art Information Access
project team and serves as an Institutional representative in related
collaborative planning and decision making.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration

    1.Communicates with and works in collaboration with peers in other
organizations      participating in the Integrated
       Arts Information Access "IAIA" project
(http://www.artsmia.org/iaia) and the Art Museum Image Consortium
"AMICO" project (http://www.amn.org/AMICO).
    2.Assists in refining project goals and objectives.
    3.Recommends, designs and administrates information processing tools
and techniques for text, images, audio,
       video and other digital information formats.
    4.Assists in determining and implementing data and metadata
standards framework which support IAIA and
       AMIGO project goals.
    5.Fosters relationships with and partners with internal and external
educational project consultants, writers and
       instructional designers.
    6.Assists in developing and managing overall project schedules and
MIA specific schedules including milestones,
       sign-offs and staff responsibilities.
    7.Manages and monitors overall and MIA specific project budgets,
contracts and billing.
    8.Identifies opportunities for efficient collaboration including
cost sharing, job sharing, and communication
       strategies.
    9.Assists in identifying, hiring and contracting appropriate
educational, imaging, programming, and information
       processing staff as required.
   10.Fosters and maintains collaborative, educated, team-based
relationships with all internal departments contributing
       staff, resources or expertise to the project(s).
   11.Assists in recommending, evaluating, selecting and purchasing
hardware, software and services.
   12.Produces staff, public and executive level progress reports, press
releases and updates as required(weekly,
       monthly, quarterly, etc.) and disseminates them via both
electronically and in print.

Quality Control

    1.Establishes, maintains and performs checks on conformance of data
processed data to defined standards.
    2.Establishes, maintains and performs checks on accuracy of digital
reproductions of images and other media
       assets.
    3.Documents, distributes, advocates and enforces standards for data
handling, translating, formatting and
       archiving.
    4.Advise, monitor and assure instructional validity and utility of
educational strategies and products.

Supervision

Supervises MIA project staff.


Representation

    1.Represents MIA and project(s) at related meetings, and conferences
as required.
    2.Presents project related reports and research as required.

Other

    1.Works well and communicates effectively with all museum
departments.
    2.Performs duties as assigned.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Experience managing large scale integrated data-base
projects, web-based information access projects and/or
internet distance education projects. Supervisory experience required.
Previous museum or art history experience helpful.

Education: Bachelors degree, Masters preferred in Educational
Technology, Business Systems or Management
Information Systems.

Knowledge & Skills: Familiarity with International data standards,
database design, data and image digitizing and
processing, internet information standards, SMGL, XML, HTML, and other
rich text formats.
