REGISTRAR

The MIT List Visual Arts Center seeks an experienced permanent
registrar.  This individual will be responsible for MIT's permanent
collection of contemporary art, as well as all logistics for an active program
of temporary exhibitions.

LVAC Registrar is responsible for the care, storage, inventory, and records
management of MIT's permanent collection of contemporary art, most of which
is publicly sited.  Maintains collection records via computer database and
periodic inventories of sites.  With Director, determines approval or
declines loan requests for works from other institutions for exhibition.
Establishes conservation priorities and arranges for treatment to all works
including monumental pieces from MIT's outdoor sculpture collection.
Organizes and maintains photography, location and historical files for
permanent collection works, updates artist's biographies.

Makes shipping, packing and insurance arrangements for all artworks - MIT
permanent collection as well as objects borrowed for temporary exhibitions,
and all of LVAC's traveling exhibitions.  Maintains pertinent temporary
exhibitions records (loan forms, condition reports, receipts, etc.) aided
by computer database.   Coordinates and prepare label information for
exhibitions.  Supervises installation crew in handling art.

The successful applicant will be a detail-oriented, precise team player
with experience in collections management, and who also is interested in
working with artists on new projects.  Minimum qualifications: bachelor's
degree with at least five years experience in art museum registration and
extensive temporary exhibition experience, including the organization of
international traveling exhibitions.  Excellent computer and communications
skills are also desired.  Salary is commensurate with experience.  Please
