METRO DISTRICT MANAGER

The Minnesota Historical Society's Historic Sites Department seeks a
Metro District Manager to provide professional administration and
management for the operations, programs, maintenance and preservation of
the eight sites in the Metro District of the Historic Sites Department.
Specifically, it directs the district's physical and interpretive
planning, research and development; develops and oversees the portion of
the department's operating and capital budgets that are allocated to the
district; assists and directs staff with management of the district's
human resources; and fosters communication between the sites in the
district and throughout the department.  The position also works with a
variety of MHS personnel to develop departmental and institutional
policies that will help the Society meet its long- and short-range
goals; in particular, it is part of a historic sites management team
consisting of other district managers, certain central staff, and the
head of historic sites. This is a full-time regular position located at
Historic Fort Snelling in St. Paul, MN.

SUMMARY OF WORK:  Major responsibilities include the following: 1)
provide administrative leadership for district staff to ensure the
implementation of the goals and objectives of the Society, the
department, the district, and the individual sites; 2) manage all
aspects of human resources within the district; 3) manage district
operations so that each site within the district operates effectively
within institutional and departmental guidelines; 4) develop and promote
public education programs within and between each site in the district;
5) build community support throughout the district; and 6) perform
related work as apparent or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*       MA degree or equivalent in history, museum studies, education, or a
related field.
*       At least seven years experience in museum or historic sites
management, in progressively responsible positions.
*       Experience in human resource, financial, and building management.
*       Highly developed interpersonal skills, including ability to serve on
teams and communicate both verbally and in writing.
*       Ability to write grants.
*       Ability to create networks and connections in local communities.
*       Willingness to travel.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
*       Highly developed project management skills.
*       Experience supervising staff over long distances.
*       Ability to use information technology to improve communication and
work processes.

SALARY:  $  3,534 monthly minimum
