Hi Dirk,

I remember hearing that the Field Museum in Chicago was experimenting
with some solar panels. They've also tried wind power (with the help of
a local university), and they did install a new, more energy efficient
heating and cooling system. While I don't know if these projects have
paid for themselves yet, I do know they were able to get some grant
money for them from ComEd (the major Chicago power company). If you are
considering alternative energy, there are a number of grants available
to help out businesses and non-profits (power companies, EPA) that may
make it a feasible option for you.

We installed an energy recovery wheel as part of our HVAC system when
we built our new Visitor Center last year. I don't have any data on what
we've save with it yet, as we've only been in the building a short time.
But we did get a grant from the Illinois EPA to pay for the addition of
the ERW.

Melissa
