The Adler Planetarium, Chicago, IL is seeking a Director of Production to lead the research and development of innovative theater shows and live show experiences. This position reports to the Vice
President for Exhibits and Programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-	leads conceptual development and revision of productions for use in theaters,   
           exhibits and programs
-	works with V.P. of Exhibits and Programs, Director of Education, Director of Space Visualization Lab, Director of Experience Design, Production Team             and the Art Director to develop
cutting-edge productions
-	consults with content experts in the Astronomy Department and Webster Institute to provide accurate science and cultural content for productions
-	works with the Director of Education to design production evaluation
-	directs the Production Department 
-	develops and monitors annual strategic plans, budgets and work schedules
-	develops business plan that includes income forecasts, marketing, leasing and distribution of shows
-	negotiates with outside vendors
-	engages in production alliances and collaboration with outside partners to secure grants and cultivate beneficial partnerships
-	collaborates on grant-funded and revenue generating projects with other departments

Education and Experience:

-	a Master’s Degree in Science Education, Theatre, Educational Technology or Business Administration; additional professional development in show 
production and theatre is preferred
-	five years of evidenced success as a director of a manager of a planetarium theatre
-          ability to analyze show production computer systems based on experience with optical-mechanical theatre systems, hybrid systems, SEOS, SkySkan,                  Zeiss projector, and
Digistar 3
-	must be willing to explore new production capabilities such as live action video with CGI, HD
-	must understand technical aspects of CGI production and rendering
-	five to ten years of proven success as a manager or director and a deep understanding of planetarium theatre systems is preferred

The person in this position must be a creative thinker and innovator.

The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
