Wow Candace,

There's an ancient Chinese curse that goes, "May you live in interesting
times." What ancient Chinese person did you tick off in a former life? ;)

Not to mention a huge legal issue as well. I'd urge the State Police to
investigate this breech and put a stop to it. People's lives have been
completely ruined by such leaks, even if they are found innocent afterwards.

As for talking around the community, there's not much you can do about that.
I'd talk to the stable owner about it and get the whole story. It could be a
case of someone trying to be vindictive and bringing up false charges. It could
be a case of "she said she was 18". Or it could be a real charge but unless
there is a formal arrest made, I wouldn't let it affect your decision to use
the stables.

Besides, the children should be supervised at all times around horses anyway so
I doubt that anyone could molest a child under those circumstances, especially
with the parents right there.

And definitely inform your house lawyer about this. Maybe a nasty note on legal
letterhead is all that is needed to shut the woman up. Afterall, spreading
rumors without any proof is slander and she can be sued for it by both your
museum and the person being accused. Some people need to be reminded of that
from time to time.

Deb
