 The Smithsonian Institution is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-
 Oct. 15) with special programs, lectures and films.  To request a free calen-

INSTITUTION-WIDE PROGRAMS:
 "After Cesar Chavez: Keeping Grass-roots Movements Alive"
 Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
 This discussion with MacArthur "Genius Grant" recipients Maria Varela and
 Ernesto Cortes, Jr. will explore the current state and future of grass-roots
 organizing among Latinos in the U.S.  Henry Cisneros, Secretary of the Dept.
 of Housing and Urban Development, will provide introductory remarks.  Zita
 Arocha, Exec. Dir. of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, will
 moderate. Carmichael Auditorium, National Museum of American History.
 
 "Smithsonian Fiesta Musical"
 Sept. 25 from noon-5 p.m.
 This fourth annual festival features Latin American musical and dance
 performances, food, crafts and other activities for the entire family.  Lion/
 Tiger Hill, National Zoological Park.
 
 "Latinas Are..."
 Sept. 24 from 9:30-5 p.m.
 A series of discussions and lectures on the multiple roles Latinas play as
 leaders, storytellers and "sisters."  Cosponsored by MANA, a national
 Latina organization, as part of their annual conference.  Reservations are
