Hi - Here's a course that we're offering through the Cultural Resource
Management Program for people interested in the preservation of natural
history collections:

PRESERVING NATURAL HISTORY COLLECTIONS
The diverse specimens which make up natural history
collections hold a wealth of information for researchers,
curators and educators concerned with environmental,
scientific and social issues. The integrity and value of
these specimens is compromised and diminished however,
if they are not effectively cared for in the museum setting.
This immersion course focuses on the preservation principles
and methods which provide a foundation for long term care,
maintenance, research, exhibition and educational uses of
both organic and inorganic specimens. Through lectures,
laboratory sessions and field trips, the following topics will
be addressed:
- history and philosophies of natural history collections development
- ethical obligations and concerns
- setting conservation standards and objectives
- traditional and new collection and preparation methods
- interaction of specimen materials with preservation methods and
environments
- storage considerations
